MAIN GALLERY - Helen Moulinos: Passive Aggression

BACK ROOM - Rob Digweed: If only they had known...

19 February – 5 March 2011

Private view: 19 February 2011, 7-9pm, accompanied by live music from Robert Digweed of The Robert Digweed Quartet.

The exhibition in the Main Gallery at The Crocus Gallery will be Greek American painter Helen Moulinos’ first solo show. Combining many key pieces from her career to date, including the celebrated Make you understand (2009) and Life less fulfilled (2009), Passive Aggression reflects Moulinos’ exploration into the effects of modern life on our consciousness.

Moulinos’ practice plays with ideas of Urban Alienation, becoming withdrawn from today’s urban world. Many people are now raised in large, developed urban centres with access to limitless possibilities; however, this can lead to confusion and feelings of inadequacy due to the continual invasion of the media, the speed of technological advancement, material consumption, the redefinition of social conventions and the current trend for lack of meaningful connection with others. She questions if taking a pause and having fewer choices to make could relieve these feelings of isolation.

Moulinos has exhibited in many group exhibitions internationally, including shows in London, Berlin and Athens. Helen Moulinos: Passive Aggression at The Crocus Gallery is a retrospective of work from the last 3 years and has been co-curated by Kat Mickleson and Kay Richards.

Rob Digweed: If only they had known..., in the Back Room, is a retro perspective, looking at the events and the familiar sights of the now. Digweed is a graphic design artist, recently graduated from the University of Nottingham and originally from Oxfordshire.

We are also very pleased to be welcoming Robert Digweed from The Robert Digweed Quartet to perform at the Private View on the 19th. With a mixed repertoire of jazz, swing, funk and pop, the quartet was originally formed by Rob in 2008 whilst at university and has been gaining recognition around the East Midlands ever since, performing regularly in venues such as The Maze, Nottingham Castle, Market Bar, Alea Casino, Colwick Hall, Bag O' Nails, Jam Café and many more.

These exhibitions look set to provide two very different, fascinating views of modern life. The gallery is supported by the Dunkirk & Lenton Partnership Forum and Nottingham City Council.

"Full Circle" Exhibition - 3rd to 16th February

Crocus Gallery goes Full Circle

The Crocus Gallery announces the opening of a new art exhibition. Opening on the 3rd February at 6pm, the exhibition ‘Full Circle’ features over twenty artists, exhibiting everything from sculpture to video.

‘Full Circle’ features emerging and professional artists’ work in a group exhibition. The exhibition has been co-curated by Kay Richards and artist Alyn Mulholland. The theme was chosen by the curators to ‘reflect the gallery journey, from opening a year ago, to the present day exhibition. With the gallery’s birthday just around the corner, we felt this broad subject would be perfect to follow the journey through the theme, while allowing artists to interpret a subject that can relate to self-journey, the seasons, shape and form and many more.’

The broad theme is celebrated in the diverse body of work that has been submitted, which has resulted in a very thought provoking and interesting exhibition.

The private view will be held on opening night, 3rd February between 6 -9pm. Opening times are Tuesday- Saturday, 11am – 4pm, until the 16th February.
