'24 Hour Draw-A-Thon' 8-9th October
On Friday 8th October, as part of 'The Big Draw', the Crocus Gallery is inviting artists and artist groups to participate in a 24 hour non-stop drawing marathon. Crocus Gallery staff and invited artists will kick-off the drawing in the gallery which will have completely bare white walls. The aim is to cover the entire walls and floor of the gallery with drawing. The work produced will remain on display in the gallery for a week until Saturday 16th October.
This event will act as a private view for the rest of the exhibition which will become a 'living' piece of artwork. Anyone who visits the gallery will be invited to add to the Gallery's walls, by either drawing directly onto them, or by drawing on one of our blank flyers and attaching it to the wall.
At the end of the exhibition sections of the drawings will be chosen and auctioned at a later date to raise money for our community gallery.
This is an opportunity to participate in a ‘live’ exhibition of drawing. You are invited to be part of the Draw-a-thon on the 8th-9th. We ask that each artist spends at least an hour drawing/making project work in the gallery but they are welcome to stay as long as they want.

'The Self' Exhibition 14th August - 4th September
'The Self' is a group exhibition curated by Alice Thickett showcasing emerging artists based in the Nottingham region.
The
new ‘Crocus Gallery’ in Lenton, Nottingham, is giving up-and-coming
artists a chance to exhibit their work in their next exhibition, which
starts on Saturday 14th August. The
exhibition is called ‘The Self’ because the artists have created work
that deals with how they feel as individuals. For some, such as Chloe
Barrett it is the physical body, which offers a starting point for her
paintings; whereas for others such as Ivan Stojceva their work is based
around emotions and states of mind. Most
of the artists exhibiting are recent graduates and would like to show
the public what they can offer. Artist and curator Alice Thickett- who
has also just graduated from Nottingham Trent University says, “Artists,
especially new ones, need the opportunity and encouragement to make
work and show off their creativity. The Crocus Gallery has allowed us
all to do just that". Whether
or not you think contemporary art is for you, the gallery invites you
to encourage this set of new talent onto the art scene. Let them show
you that contemporary art isn’t just for the collectors and critics,
that it can also be something, for ‘The Self'. The
gallery is open Tuesday- Saturday, 11am-4pm, until Saturday 4th
September. There will be an opening night for the exhibition, on Friday
13th August at 6pm.
